You Vaccinate Your Kid?
 | That dreadful feeling of seeing your little one getting injected and standing helpless by your side can appear worst than anything to you. When your kid screams with pain in spite of the promise of that big bar of chocolate or a triple scoop ice cream, it surely makes you utterly sad. Actually, the scene breaks the heart of all mothers. But as parents, we all should know that for a kid there is nothing more important than getting vaccination at the right age. It works as a life saving option for the little angel. One of the first vaccinations for your baby will be the Hepatitis B Vaccine, which is also known as HBV. Most of the vaccines will have more than one dose. Then is the schedule for RV, DTaP, PCV and IPV. RV is a vaccination for Rotavirus, which results in severe diarrhea among kids. DTaP is a combination vaccination. This protects against diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis. All these are multiple dose vaccinations with 3 to 5 doses. Another important set of vaccinations is that of Hib, PCV and IPV. The worldwide advent of polio vaccine has almost wiped off the disease from the earth! Next is another set of combination vaccines, which is called MMR. This is meant for diseases like measles, mumps and rubella. These days, vaccinations are administered to fight against chicken pox and Hepatitis A too. Some vaccinations like Yellow fever vaccine do not come in the routine schedule. But it is strongly recommended for children who have a higher chance of exposure to the disease. As much as the knowledge of the available vaccines, it is also required that you understand how these vaccinations work. Vaccinations are made from the same set of bacteria and viruses that create the actual disease. When these weakened viruses are injected, our body generates antibodies against the same and thus prepares our immune system to combat the next attack. So, whenever an actual attack comes, the already present antibodies protect us from the disease. |
